Principle parts of Shaper Machine

One may have heard about shaper. But what exactly it constitutes? Let’s begin with basic information; Shaper machine is principally a type of machine tool used on relatively linear motion between the cutting tool and work piece to operate on a linear tool path. The cut is analogous to lathe though the plane is linear yet can also produce helical cutting. The Shaper Machines help produce flat surfaces, which might be vertical, horizontal or at an angle. What is more, it is used for making slot cut and cutting keyways, grooves. Other industrial units employ this product to form convex or concave contours to particular jobs or sometimes the combination of both of them. Industrial shaper machines are manufactured under the best quality as well as fine metal according to the quality approved for industrial machines for giving the best performance and long last working. Wood working machines and industrial machine tools are used on the large scale industries.

The work-piece is held fixed to rigid worktable. Then the single point cutting tool is held with proper angle in the tool post mounted on a ram member. In standards shaper, this back and forth movement is obtained at faster rate. Feed the job and the RAM reciprocates, the tool starts its work and cuts the material in its forward cutting stroke. As the stroke returns, no cutting action is performed. This backward stroke is also described as idle cutting stroke.

The main segment of this machine constitutes important parts include body, column, and rigid base, cross rail, RAM and head. If you jump to conclusions, first get enough information about the about the mechanism parts.

Body: The machine body is made of frame pillar and column and is mounted upon the base. It too houses a feed shaper drive compressing the main drives, the gear box and quick return mechanism for successful ram motion. The top part is provided with guide ways for the ram and the front face facilitates with its guide ways for cross rail.

Base: This part is useful or casting heavy iron bases and is attached to the shop floor. This provides hold up the body frame and entire machine load. When the work-in-progress, the base system is able to survive the mechanical vibrations/forces.

Cross rail: Another important part is cross rail in Shaper Machines on body frame and could move up or down directions. The vertical movement set up the workpieces of different heights to be put under the tool. Saddle keeps the workpiece firmly on the table and secures over the pressure.

Tool head and ram: The head and ram tool are the inseparable parts of the machine. Here, the ram moves forward and backward motion through slotted link mechanism. In general, this action is called stroke and this movement involves adjustment of long work piece length for machining operations.

Once you have been through the parts and working mechanism, it would be easy to pick the best item from diverse types. Further, you can better get knowledge about machines how they are useful for industrial purposes.
